رباعی عربی کا لفظ ہے جس کے لغوی معنی چار چار کے ہیں۔ شاعرانہ مضمون میں رباعی اس صنف کا نام ہے جس میں چار مصرعوں میں ایک مکمل مضمون ادا کیا جاتا ہے۔
رباعی کا وزن مخصوص ہے، پہلے دوسرے اور چوتھے مصرعے میں قافیہ لانا ضروری ہے۔ تیسرے مصرعے میں اگر قافیہ لایا جائے تو کوئی عیب نہیں۔
