Explanation
. Chairman's Part
  • He said, "How are you?"
  • He asked, "Is this your first appearance in the interview?" When I told him that it was my second appearance and that I was already an SS, he asked:
  • Why do you want to become a lecturer?
  • Why has Higher Education not yet achieved its objectives?
  • What has the BS system improved so far? Which system is better, MA or BS?
  • Which field do you prefer, Linguistics or Literature?
  • What kinds of books do you read? What was the last book you read?
  • What is the theme of The Metamorphosis?
  • What is a novel?
  • What is a novella?
  • What is the difference between a novel and a drama?
  • Questions about Hamlet.
Note: This was a "no sorry" part. I tried to answer all the questions.
Then he said, "Introduce yourself."
After my introduction, he asked me to go to the board and give a demo on the topic I had prepared.
 SS-1 Part (on my right)
  • He praised my fluency and then asked, "How do you teach communication?"
  • How many times have you used technological tools to help students listen in class?
  • Can your students speak English? I said they cannot speak fluently, but they are improving.
  • Is the fault in your students or in your teaching method? I said the problem was in my method.
  • He said that he had stopped working on their communication because they would not be able to speak. Have you reached that point too? I said no, I am still working on their communication skills and believe they will improve.
  • How do you improve your students' vocabulary?
  • What are determiners?
  • What is discourse analysis?
  • What is implicature?
  • What are allophones?
  • What is doublethink?
  • What is doublespeak? I said it was Newspeak. He nodded and asked, "So, what is Newspeak?"
  • What is the contrast between Orwell's 1984 and Huxley's Brave New World?
  • What is your favorite play? I said Hamlet.
  • Why do you like it? I said, "It is mainly about revenge."
  • What if the play had progressed in the opposite direction?
  • What is the difference between cohesion and coherence?
  • Write a sentence using "I had better gone."
  • Which is your favorite poem?
  • Why does he say, "one too like thee swift and tameless..."?
  • What caused Shelley's melancholy?
  • What was the name and author of Ten Thousand Sixty-Six? I paused, then he smiled and told me it was a famous work. I said something about the Norman Conquest because I did not know any other answer.
  • A romance with four important and famous characters? It was a riddle, and I did not know the answer.
  • Who was King Arthur? If I say he did not exist and was fictional, what would you say?
  • What is a question?
  • What is a tag question?
  • Two more Linguistics questions, which I do not remember.

Note: This was the "sorry" part. I said sorry to 4–5 questions, which I do not remember except for the question about implicature mentioned above.

SS-2 Part (on my left)
  • What is tense?
  • What is "swimming"?
  • He asked me to write a sentence containing the word "swimming." He then asked whether the sentence was complete. I said no because the helping verb "are" was missing.
  • How many tenses are there? Then he returned to that sentence again.
  • What is the difference between "I have worked hard" and "Have I not worked hard?"
  • What are helping verbs?
  • What is the function of helping verbs?
  • He asked some other technical questions about that sentence.
Note: This was another "no sorry" part. I answered all the questions, but he countered each answer with technicalities. The problem was that I could not hear his voice properly, so I requested him to repeat the questions.
Closing
The Chairman said, "Okay, Naveed Khan, you may leave now."
The interview lasted 35 minutes.
