According to the National Nutrition Survey jointly published by the government and the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef), more than 40 per cent of Pakistani children under the age of five suffer long-term health problems because of severe malnutrition. Most of these malnourished children live in Pakistan’s rural areas.
On 14 August 2020, the then president Dr Arif Alvi presented Nishan-e-Pakistan to Kashmiri Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani for his noteworthy services and sacrifices for the oppressed people of Indian occupied Kashmir.
Syed Ali became the 27th foreign recipients of Nishan-e-Pakistan.
